An extensive list of biographies of female mathematicians, which need to be created or improved, and a section on the Association for Women in Mathematics listing awards, prizes, and lectures, which list award/prize recipients who don’t have pages and prizes/awards that don’t have pages.
Clemson’s Men of Color National Summit will be held March 3-4, 2020 at the Greenville Convention Center. Plenary speakers include NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson. Unfortunately, this year’s summit does not include any women speakers, unlike in previous years.
This year’s celebration of Black History Month at Clemson culminates in the keynote address by Michael Sam, an openly gay NFL player. Mr. Sam’s lecture (Thursday, February 27 at 6:00pm in the Class of 1944 Visitors Center, Self Auditorium) promises to be inspiring.
Wednesday, February 26 at 4:00pm in the Watt Center Auditorium, Dr. Jenna P. Carpenter will present as part of the TIGERS Advance Distinguished Speaker Series. Dr. Carpenter is Founding Dean and Professor of Engineering at Campbell University. Her presentation is sponsored by the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences and Clemson’s student chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics.
Clemson will observe its 38th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. The theme for this year’s celebration is 2020 Vision: Looking Back, Moving Forward. Events will take place Jan 20-23 for the campus and the community to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King and its application in our society today.
An interactive live forum exploring the Sikes Sit-In from the persepective of Administrators. Presented by: Commision on the Black Expereince and the EDL 9770: Diversity Issues in Higher Education course.
We should be clear: we do not know the agenda for this event. We hope that it accurately portrays the events around the Sikes Hall sit-in, the frustrating responses by administration (including the appropriation of the “See The Stripes” title, see also IHE) and describes concrete, meaningful actions being taken by Clemson administration.
