Women and Underrepresented Minorities win National Awards

A variety of awards were announced in the May issue of the AMS Notices, including:

  • Erika Camacho of Arizona State University was honored with the Louise Hay Award for Contribution to Mathematics Education
  • Margaret Robinson of Mount Holyoke College has been named the recipient of the 2020 M. Gweneth Humphreys Award for Mentorship of Undergraduate Women in Mathematics.
  • Federico Ardila of San Francisco State University was awarded the 2020 Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Awards for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics
  • Suzanne L. Weekes of Worcester Polytechnic Institute was awarded the 2020 Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Awards for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics
  • Julia Chuzhoy of Toyota Technological Institute, Chicago, has been named the recipient of the 2020 Michael and Sheila Held Prize of the National Academy of Sciences.
  • Maryna Viazovska of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne has been awarded the 2019 Fermat Prize for research in mathematics.
  • Ila Varma (University of Toronto), Cynthia Vinzant (North Carolina State University), Yao Yao (Georgia Institute of Technology), and Zhizhen Zhao (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) were awarded 2020 Sloan Fellowships
